I asked you guys to help find out what was going on with a folk dancing petition.
nigelh and
rince_wind chipped in and with some of my inexpert reading of legislation online produced this blog post: IANAL. I have searched for random LJ and other blog posts to spread the idea that I think this is all a storm in a teacup. The two petitions showing up most in the blogosphere ATM are the fuel duty one which while understandable is short sited and this one which I think is based on a false premise. If only we could get all this energy into the campaigns for real civil liberties issues like 42 days or ID cards.
I didn't want or try to patronise you by telling you why you should sign the petition in previous LJ posts, as I have not got the relevant legislation and answers to this question, nor am I intelligent enough to find them or interpret them if I did.
I simply received an e-mail from a couple of friends, read what the petition had to say, signed it, and forwarded it to people who I thought might be interested in supporting it. As you know, dancing and the traditions that surround it are something that I am passionate about and will fight for and to protect, even when that fight is misguided.
I totally agree that you should read things before you sign, and this chain of events had led me to change my views and in future I will try to research things as well.
I really hope this post doesn't come across at bitchy, as that's not at all how I intend it. I just wanted to put my own feelings down in explanation, and I can do that a lot better in writing than in person, when I tend to get confused about what I want to say.
